FSSAI
What is FSSAI?
The Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, is a consolidating statute about Food Safety and Regulation in India. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body established under it. FSSAI regulates the various aspects involved in the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale, and import of consumables to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
FSSAI has incorporated the salient features of the earlier PFA (Prevention of Food Adulteration Act) and has harmonised with global regulations, various international legislation and the Codex Alimentarius Commission to make the products compliant to acceptable global quality standards.
FSSAI protects and promotes public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety. Any food for human consumption must comply with FSSAI regulations. A food license issued by the FSSAI is an assurance of good quality of food in business and it meets the safety criteria essentially based on scientific data and other factors relevant to the safety of food products for protecting the health of consumers. In addition, consumers are satisfied that what they are consuming is not just safe but is of good quality.

FEMA GRAS
What is FEMA GRAS?
FEMA (The Flavour and Extract Manufacturers Association of the United States) is an Association of flavour ingredient suppliers, flavour manufacturers, flavour users and others with interest in the flavour industry. It is an association that is committed to assuring the safety of flavouring substances.
FEMA assesses the safety and ‘GRAS’ (Generally Recognized As Safe) status of flavour ingredients as described in the 1958 Food Additives Amendments to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Federal law governing the regulation of flavours and other food ingredients). The FEMA food expert panel has evaluated each ingredient using the best available scientific procedures and information and the safety standards applied are the same as required by the FDA i.e., reasonable certainty of no harm.
For any food ingredient to be GRAS, it must be generally recognised as safe by a qualified expert (the experts must be qualified by training and experience to evaluate the substance’s safety) and the determination of general recognition of safety must consider the conditions of intended use for the substance, in other words, its function in the food, e.g., flavouring.
FEMA GRAS listed Flavouring substances
Keva is committed to safety in all aspects; thus, we ensure the materials used in the manufacturing of our flavours are of the best quality and are FEMA GRAS listed. FEMA GRAS listed ingredients are globally acceptable to be used in the manufacture of flavours. Also, this ensures our flavours are complying with FDA and are safe for human consumption with a reasonable certainty of no harm.
